Examiner News Desk | Srinagar:
What was initially reported as a tragic trekking accident at Maharashtra’s Lohagad Fort has evolved into a sensational murder case, with investigators alleging that 25-year-old realtor Ketan Agarwal was killed in a pre-planned conspiracy involving his fiancée, Siya Goyal, and her friend, Chetan Chaudhary.
According to the Pune Rural Police, Agarwal died after falling into a gorge during a trek to Lohagad Fort on June 18. His fiancée initially informed police that he had accidentally slipped while taking photographs. However, inconsistencies in her account and suspicions raised by Agarwal’s family prompted a detailed investigation.
Police allege that Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary had conspired to kill Agarwal and executed the plan at the fort. Investigators claim the accused had rehearsed the crime before the incident and had made earlier unsuccessful attempts to kill the victim. Both accused have been arrested and booked on charges of murder and criminal conspiracy. The investigation remains underway.
Investigators further allege that the accused used a pre-arranged signal during the trek before Agarwal was pushed into the gorge. Police are also examining digital evidence, including mobile phone records and electronic data, as part of the ongoing probe. Authorities have stated that forensic and technical evidence will play a key role in the case.
The case has drawn widespread public attention because of the dramatic turn in the investigation. Agarwal, a director in his family’s real estate business, was engaged to Siya Goyal earlier this year, and the couple was reportedly preparing for an elaborate wedding later in 2026.
Police have not disclosed a final motive, but investigators are examining the relationship between the accused and the circumstances leading up to the incident. Officials have stressed that the investigation is continuing and that the allegations against the accused will be tested during judicial proceedings.
