A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, prompting a swift police manhunt that led to the arrest of the accused, a senior police officer said on Saturday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Naresh Singh stated that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) apprehended the suspect following the registration of a First Information Report (FIR). The case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to officials, the legal action was initiated after the victim’s grandfather lodged a written complaint with the police, alleging that his granddaughter had been sexually assaulted.
The police subsequently tracked down and arrested the accused, identified as Imran Hossain, a resident of Bhugrana Badhat. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway, the officer added.
