The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Tuesday said it had received fresh assurances from government representatives that more BJP/NDA-ruled states would soon issue notifications protecting NEET-UG protesters from legal action, hours after the group warned of reviving its agitation over an alleged “breach of agreement”.
In a post on X in the early hours of Tuesday, CJP Chief Spokesperson Saurav Das said a meeting with government representatives lasted nearly three hours, during which officials shared copies of notifications issued by the Bihar and Assam governments confirming the withdrawal of FIRs against protesters, the release of detainees and assurances that no further legal action would be taken.
“Hours after our press conference, government representatives met us. The meeting lasted for 2-3 hours. They shared copies of the Bihar and Assam notifications guaranteeing FIR withdrawals, no action in future, and the release of all detainees and arrestees,” Das wrote on X.
He said the government had also reiterated its commitment to issuing similar notifications through the Union government and other BJP/NDA-ruled states.
“Hopefully, the agreed-upon language shall be used. No protester will be left alone. We are all in this together,” he added.
The statement came hours after CJP had accused the government of failing to honour commitments made after the 37-day protest at Jantar Mantar was called off.
Earlier on Monday, CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka alleged that despite an agreement with the government to ensure no police action against protesters, demonstrators continued to face arrests, surveillance and harassment in several states.
“We are observing a complete breach of the agreement regarding no police action against the protesters,” Ranka said, claiming that students had been arrested in Bihar and West Bengal, while volunteers in Delhi were being detained and harassed.
Ranka demanded the immediate withdrawal of all FIRs, the release of detained students and a guarantee that no fresh cases would be registered. He warned that the organisation would resume its protests if the assurances were not implemented.
Das said CJP leaders had raised concerns during the late-night meeting that commitments made during negotiations might not be enforced on the ground. According to him, government representatives responded by presenting Bihar’s Home Department notification and assured the delegation that similar guarantees would soon be issued in other states.
“The government has guaranteed that notifications addressing our concerns in various states will be issued by tomorrow and that protesters will remain safe. No action will be taken against them in the future,” Das said.
He also claimed that the organisation had received a separate assurance that authorities in Rajasthan would not initiate action against protesters.
