Srinagar, July 31: A Border Security Force (BSF) Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) was found dead with a bullet injury at his place of posting in Boniyar area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday, officials said.
The deceased was identified as ASI Shiv Dutt, son of Late Shimru Singh, a resident of Shoran in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. He was 56.
Officials said Shiv Dutt was serving with the 175 Battalion of the BSF and was posted with E Company in Boniyar.
According to official sources, the ASI was found dead with a bullet injury. Preliminary indications suggest that he may have died after shooting himself with his service rifle. However, the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be established.
A police team from Police Station Boniyar reached the spot soon after the incident and initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause and circumstances of the death.
