A non-local worker was killed and another injured after suspected militants opened fire on them in the Kellam area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday evening, officials said.
According to officials, the assailants targeted the two workers while they were in Kellam, leaving both with gunshot injuries. They were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
One of the injured later succumbed to his injuries, while the other was referred to Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, for specialised treatment.
Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.
The identities of the victims had not been officially disclosed at the time of filing this report. Authorities have also not confirmed the group responsible for the attack. Further details are awaited.
