The Jammu and Kashmir Government has conferred the powers of Collector under the Jammu and Kashmir Land Revenue Act, Samvat 1996, on all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) across the Union Territory within their respective territorial jurisdictions.

The Revenue Department issued the notification through S.O. 212, dated July 30, 2026, in exercise of the powers vested under sub-sections (4) and (5) of Section 6 of the Jammu and Kashmir Land Revenue Act, Samvat 1996.

According to the notification, all SDMs in the Union Territory shall exercise the powers of Collector under the Act within the limits of their respective jurisdictions.

The move is aimed at strengthening the revenue administration by empowering SDMs to discharge statutory functions and exercise the authority of a Collector under the provisions of the Land Revenue Act within their respective subdivisions.
