A Selection Grade Constable of the Jammu and Kashmir Police has been dismissed from service following a departmental inquiry into his alleged involvement in a narcotics case registered in Kathua district, police said on Tuesday.
According to a police spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua, Mohita Sharma, ordered the dismissal of Aftab Ahmed, a resident of Reasi district, after the inquiry substantiated allegations of his involvement in narcotics smuggling.
The case pertains to an FIR registered earlier this year at Billawar Police Station under various provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police said Ahmed was apprehended with heroin during a routine checking operation conducted by a police party. Following his arrest, he was placed under suspension with immediate effect on April 8 on charges of grave misconduct and indiscipline.
A departmental inquiry was subsequently ordered and entrusted to the Superintendent of Police, Operations, to examine the allegations. The inquiry report, submitted on July 27, found the charges to be substantiated and recommended Ahmed’s dismissal from service, the spokesperson said.
Acting on the findings of the inquiry, the SSP Kathua ordered his dismissal under Rule 335 of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Rules.
Police said the action was taken to uphold institutional discipline, integrity and accountability within the force, while sending a strong message that involvement in narcotics-related offences by police personnel will not be tolerated.
