Examiner Bureau | Jammu:
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Sub-Inspector of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, posted at Police Station Janipur in Jammu, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe in connection with a marital dispute.
According to the CBI, the agency registered a case on August 16 following a complaint alleging that the police officer had demanded ₹20,000 from the complainant in return for not registering an FIR against him.
The demand was allegedly linked to a marital dispute involving the complainant.
The CBI said that following negotiations, the accused officer allegedly agreed to accept ₹10,000 instead of the initially demanded amount.
Acting on the complaint, the agency laid a trap on August 16. The accused Sub-Inspector was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹10,000 from the complainant.
The arrest was made as part of the CBI’s anti-corruption action, the agency said.
The CBI has initiated further investigation into the case to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged bribery demand and determine whether any other persons were involved.
The agency said further details would emerge as the investigation progresses.
The arrest comes amid continued efforts by central investigative agencies to crack down on alleged corruption and bribery involving public servants.
