An unidentified body was recovered from a river in the Nowshera area of Rajouri district on Thursday, officials said.
According to officials, some locals engaged in contract-related work noticed the body floating in the river and immediately informed the police.
Following the information, a police team, along with personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), reached the spot and launched a recovery operation. The body was subsequently retrieved from the river and taken into police custody.
Officials said the identity of the deceased has not yet been established. They added that the body was in a decomposed condition, making identification difficult.
Meanwhile, police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the identity of the deceased and determine the circumstances surrounding the death. Further details are awaited as the probe progresses.
