A tourist from Odisha was killed on Wednesday after a boulder rolled down a hillside and struck the vehicle he was travelling in on the Khanbal–Pahalgam Road near the Bumzoo shrine in the Mattan area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said.
According to officials, the accident occurred when an Innova (JK01AT-8081) carrying six tourists from Pahalgam to Anantnag was hit by a massive boulder that fell from the adjoining hillside.
One tourist sustained critical injuries, while the remaining five passengers and the driver escaped unhurt.
The injured man was immediately shifted to Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, where doctors declared him brought dead.
The deceased has been identified as R. Himansu Prasad Rao, son of R. Pala Krishna Rao, a resident of Ganjam district, Odisha.
