The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested a Junior Assistant posted in the office of the Assistant Commissioner (General), Jammu, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹15,000.
The accused, Ajay Kumar, son of late Ram Murti and a resident of Gango Chack in Gajansoo, Jammu, allegedly demanded ₹20,000 from a complainant for issuing a marriage certificate under the Special Marriage Act, 1954. According to the ACB, the amount was later negotiated and settled at ₹15,000.
The complainant approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau after refusing to pay the alleged bribe. A preliminary verification conducted by the bureau found prima facie evidence supporting the allegations.
Following the verification, the ACB registered FIR No. 11/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018, at Police Station ACB Central J&K, Jammu.
The bureau subsequently laid a trap and caught Kumar allegedly demanding and accepting ₹15,000 from the complainant. The bribe money was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses, the ACB said.
Following the arrest, the bureau also conducted searches at the accused’s residential premises in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses.
The ACB said further investigation into the matter is underway.
