A 21-year-old man from Reasi district was arrested and later granted bail after allegedly entering the official residence of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wazarat Road here on September 4, police said.
The accused, identified as Tilak Raj, a resident of Kakryal village in Katra tehsil, was intercepted by personnel of the Special Security Group (SSG) after he was allegedly seen climbing the rear wall of the Chief Minister’s residence.
Police said there was no indication that Raj intended to cause harm to the Chief Minister or any member of his family.
According to a police official, Raj had travelled to Jammu on September 3 with a friend from Reasi. Later that day, personnel at the Gujjar Nagar Police Post allegedly found him in an inebriated condition and booked him under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
As the alleged offence was bailable, police asked Raj’s parents to report to the police post, the official said. His parents arrived the following day, and his father was asked to arrange a local person to stand surety for him.
While his father left to arrange the surety, Raj allegedly attempted to scale the wall of the Chief Minister’s residence, located adjacent to the police post. Police said he apparently made the attempt to evade his father and avoid his anger.
SSG personnel noticed Raj and detained him before handing him over to the Gujjar Nagar Police Post.
Following preliminary questioning, police registered a separate case against him for alleged trespassing. He was subsequently released on bail, the official said. Police are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
