Examiner Bureau | Poonch:
Two men have been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a Class 7 student in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officials said on Wednesday.
The accused, identified as Zahoor Mushtaq alias Sonu and his associate Mohd Irfan, have been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including those pertaining to gang rape, kidnapping and wrongful confinement, as well as under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, officials said.
According to officials, a complaint was lodged at Gursai Police Station by the girl’s father, who alleged that his daughter was returning home on September 6 when she boarded a cab driven by Mushtaq.
The complainant alleged that the driver took the girl to his house, where his friend Irfan was also present.
The accused allegedly confined the girl for three days and subjected her to repeated sexual assault, officials said, quoting the complaint.
Police acted on the complaint and arrested both accused. The girl has been placed under appropriate care and protection as required under law, officials said.
Further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and gather additional evidence in the case.
