Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday inaugurated the renovated Jammu and Kashmir House at Amritsar in Punjab, upgraded to provide affordable accommodation to residents of J&K visiting the city, particularly patients and their attendants.
The heritage property, located at 2-Court Road, Amritsar, has undergone comprehensive renovation with modern amenities and upgraded infrastructure. The work commenced in October 2025 and was completed at an estimated cost of ₹2.30 crore.
The renovation included civil and electrical works, interior improvements, guest amenities, external development and other allied infrastructure.
The upgraded facility now comprises four guest rooms, each equipped with an attached dressing area and washroom. It also has a common sitting lounge, dining area and kitchen.
Located close to major hospitals and other important destinations in Amritsar, the facility is expected to provide much-needed support to patients and their attendants travelling from Jammu and Kashmir for medical treatment.
The J&K House will also accommodate students, pilgrims and other residents visiting Amritsar.
During his visit, Omar inspected the renovated facilities and directed the concerned officers to maintain high standards of hospitality, cleanliness and upkeep.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the facility would help ease the difficulties faced by patients and their families who are required to travel outside Jammu and Kashmir for medical treatment.
He said the renovated house would also offer a convenient and affordable accommodation option for other residents of J&K visiting Amritsar.
Omar appreciated the departments and officers involved in the renovation work and stressed the importance of ensuring proper maintenance of the facility.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by his Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dheeraj Gupta, Resident Commissioner J&K Ramesh Kumar, Secretary Hospitality and Protocol Avny Lavasa, Additional Resident Commissioner Anil Sharma, and senior officers from the J&K and Punjab governments.
