The ruling National Conference (NC) has convened a meeting of its legislature party on Sunday ahead of the autumn session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, scheduled to begin on September 21.
According to party sources, the meeting of NC legislators and Independent MLAs supporting the government will be held at 4.30 p.m. at the Banquet Hall in Srinagar.
The meeting will be chaired by National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah and attended by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is also the party’s legislature leader. All party MLAs have been directed to attend the meeting, sources said.
The meeting is expected to focus on the party’s strategy for the upcoming Assembly session, particularly on issues likely to be raised by the Opposition, including the BJP and the PDP.
Party sources said the legislators are also likely to discuss the government’s legislative and administrative priorities during the session.
The meeting assumes significance as the autumn session is the first major legislative engagement after the Assembly’s earlier sittings, with the Opposition expected to raise issues concerning the functioning of the government and matters pending before the Centre.
Sources also indicated that discussions on the allocation of portfolios could figure in the deliberations.
The Assembly session is scheduled to commence on September 21.
