Examiner Bureau | Jammu:
Security forces on Sunday launched search and combing operations in forest areas of Rajouri and Udhampur districts following reports of suspected terrorist movement, officials said.
According to officials, three suspected terrorists allegedly abducted a villager, identified as Anil Sudan, from near his residence at Upper Lardia in the Sunderbani sector of Rajouri late Saturday night.
Sudan was reportedly released around 3.15 am after the suspected terrorists allegedly used him as a guide to reach the Dua Khad forest, officials said.
After receiving information about the incident, police and Army personnel rushed to the area and launched a search operation to trace the suspected terrorists. No contact with the suspects had been established so far, officials said.
Security forces also cordoned off the Mandugala Dhok forest area in Rajouri after locals reported seeing two persons dressed in black and carrying backpacks and weapons, officials said.
Another search operation was launched in the Chigli Keya area of Udhampur following inputs regarding suspected movement in the area, officials said.
The latest operations come amid heightened security activity in the Jammu region following recent encounters and reports of suspected militant movement in forested areas.
On September 17, two Pakistani terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Majalta area of Udhampur. One other suspected terrorist was reportedly injured in the operation but managed to escape.
Security forces have intensified surveillance and area domination operations in the region as searches continue for the suspected militants.
