Examiner Bureau | Jammu:
Jammu is set to add 75 new air-conditioned Smart Electric Buses to its public transport network under the PM-eBus Sewa programme, marking another step towards expanding cleaner and more passenger-friendly urban mobility.
The bidding process for the Jammu and Kashmir lot has been completed, with M/s PMI Electro Mobility Solutions Private Limited emerging as the lowest bidder (L-1), according to the administration. Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) has communicated the outcome to the Jammu and Kashmir Government, while the formal award of the contract is expected after completion of the remaining procedures.
The proposed fleet will comprise standard-floor, 7-metre electric buses equipped with air-conditioning. The smaller vehicles are expected to improve connectivity on routes passing through congested parts of the city, while offering passengers a more comfortable travel experience, particularly during Jammu’s hot summer months.
Jammu currently operates 100 Smart Electric Buses through Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL), including 25 buses measuring 12 metres and 75 measuring nine metres.
The existing fleet is also scheduled to expand with the addition of 25 more 12-metre electric buses. The contract for these vehicles was signed in August 2026, and manufacturing is under way.
With the proposed procurement of 75 smaller buses, Jammu is moving towards a diversified electric bus fleet comprising 7-metre, 9-metre and 12-metre vehicles. The range of bus sizes is expected to allow deployment according to route conditions, passenger demand and road accessibility.
Under the proposed arrangement, the selected operator will be responsible for providing, maintaining and operating the buses on designated city routes.
JSCL Chief Executive Officer Devansh Yadav said the expansion would strengthen the city’s public transport system and improve passenger convenience.
“Jammu is moving towards a cleaner, smarter and more passenger-friendly public transport system. The addition of 75 new 7-metre AC Smart Electric Buses will further strengthen the JSCL fleet and provide people with cleaner, reliable and comfortable mobility,” Dr Yadav said.
The 75 buses form part of Lot-16 under PM-eBus Sewa Tender-3 and have been allocated specifically to Jammu.
The administration will now complete the remaining contractual formalities, including the issuance of the Letter of Award and signing of the agreement with the selected operator. The buses will be deployed after these procedures are completed.
With 100 electric buses already operating, 25 additional vehicles under manufacture and another 75 moving towards procurement, Jammu’s electric public transport network is poised for a substantial expansion. The initiative is expected to support cleaner urban mobility while increasing transport capacity across the city.
