The Government of India has appointed senior IAS officer Sajjan Singh Yadav as the new Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, with his posting scheduled to take effect from November 1, 2026, or the date he assumes charge, whichever is later.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued the transfer and posting order on Saturday, shifting Yadav from Delhi to the Union Territory. The order, numbered 15041/07/2023-UTS.I, was issued with the approval of the competent authority.

A 1995-batch officer of the AGMUT cadre, Yadav was serving as Additional Chief Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Delhi Jal Board, a position he assumed in June 2026. Before that, he held senior assignments in the Union Finance Ministry’s Department of Expenditure.

During his administrative career, Yadav has served in several key sectors, including finance, public health, women and child development, nutrition and urban governance. His previous assignments include leading the National Nutrition Mission and serving as director of the National Rural Health Mission.

Yadav holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Delhi and a Master of Public Administration in Public Policy from the Hubert Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. He also holds a doctorate in public health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

His appointment marks a significant administrative change in Jammu and Kashmir, with Yadav set to take over the Union Territory’s top bureaucratic position from November 1, subject to the terms specified in the government order.
