Actor and Punjab Kings (PBKS) co-owner Preity Zinta expressed delight after her team created history by successfully chasing down 265 runs—the highest-ever run chase in T20 cricket—to defeat Delhi Capitals by six wickets in a thrilling Indian Premier League (IPL) clash on Saturday.
Taking to social media, Zinta congratulated both the PBKS squad and Delhi Capitals opener KL Rahul for their outstanding performances. She also praised key contributors including Shreyas Iyer, Prabhsimran Singh, Priyansh Arya, Nehal Wadhera, and Shashank Singh for delivering a performance “for the record books.”
The match turned into an instant classic, with Delhi Capitals posting a formidable 264/2 after being put in to bat. The innings was powered by a stunning 220-run partnership between Rahul, who scored an unbeaten 152 off 67 balls, and Nitish Rana, who added an unbeaten 91 off 44 deliveries.
Despite Rahul’s historic knock—making him the first Indian to score 150 in the IPL—Punjab Kings responded with an explosive start. Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh dismantled the bowling attack in the powerplay, racing to 116 runs and setting the foundation for the chase.
Captain Shreyas Iyer then anchored the innings with a composed unbeaten 71 off 36 balls, building crucial partnerships with Nehal Wadhera and Shashank Singh to guide PBKS to victory in just 18.5 overs.
With this win, Punjab Kings remain unbeaten in the tournament, registering six wins and one no result to sit comfortably at the top of the points table with 13 points. Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, are placed sixth with three wins and four losses.
The remarkable chase surpasses PBKS’s previous record of chasing 262 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2024 season, further cementing their reputation as one of the most formidable sides in the competition.
