In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Anantnag Police have seized large quantities of narcotics and arrested multiple accused in a series of coordinated operations across the district.
Acting on specific inputs and during routine patrols, Police Station Srigufwara intercepted an Alto vehicle (JK01W-7328) at Shalgam Crossing. During the search, approximately 110 kilograms of ganja was recovered. The driver, identified as Nazir Ahmad Khatana, a resident of Gujar Basti Shalgam, was arrested on the spot. A case under FIR No. 39/2026 has been registered under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, and investigation is underway.
In a separate operation, a police team from Police Post Dialgam conducted a court-authorised search at the residence of Mohd Rafiq Itoo in Watrigam Dialgam. During the search, around 51 kilograms of a charas-like substance was recovered. FIR No. 119/2026 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered in this connection.
Further, during naka checking at Sakhras Crossing, Police Station Srigufwara apprehended one individual, Rayees Ahmad Shah of Wullarhama. Approximately 5 kilograms of charas powder was recovered from his possession. FIR No. 40/2026 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered.
In another action, Police Station Bijbehara intercepted a suspected drug peddler at Doodnad Waghama during routine checking. The police recovered 170 grams of charas-like substance along with ₹18,700 in cash from his possession. FIR No. 111/2026 has been registered, and further investigation is in progress.
Anantnag Police have reiterated their commitment to eliminating the drug menace from the region and have urged the public to cooperate by sharing any information related to narcotics activities.
