At least three schoolgirls were injured in a road accident in the Qazigund area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday, officials said.
According to officials, the incident occurred on the Kulbagh–Qazi Mohalla Link Road when an i20 car, driven by Rayees Ahmad Rather, hit the students while heading towards Qazigund.
The injured have been identified as Fatima Jan and Tahmeena Jan, daughters of Mohammad Altaf Parray from Shampora, and Aliya Jan, daughter of Mohammad Altaf Zahid from Salyaloo.
Fatima Jan sustained critical injuries, while the other two suffered minor injuries. All three were immediately shifted to Emergency Hospital Qazigund for treatment.
Police said a case (FIR No. 102/2026) under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Qazigund, and an investigation has been initiated.
The accused driver, who initially fled the scene, was apprehended within an hour of the incident, with police confirming that the hit-and-run case was swiftly resolved.
