Deputy Inspector General of Police, Udhampur-Reasi Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma on Sunday chaired an operations-cum-security review meeting, stressing the need to further strengthen the intelligence network through effective asset cultivation and sustained community engagement.

The meeting was held at Majalta Police Station in Udhampur district, where the officer also reviewed operational preparedness during his visits to 84 Brigade headquarters in Rampur, Majalta, and Police Post Khoon, officials said.

During the review, Sharma directed officers to intensify Long Range Patrols (LRPs), Short Range Patrols (SRPs) and Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) to maintain heightened vigilance and operational efficiency across the region.

He also called for firm legal action against offenders booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, as well as against Over Ground Workers (OGWs). He further instructed officials to initiate property attachment proceedings wherever necessary.

Highlighting the importance of grassroots intelligence, Sharma underscored regular interaction with village heads and prominent citizens to ensure a timely flow of actionable inputs.

The DIG also directed stringent action against drug peddlers and bovine smugglers, citing their alleged links with other unlawful and anti-national activities.

To strengthen the security grid, he ordered activation of Village Defence Guards (VDGs), intensified naka checking, enhanced patrolling and effective night domination measures in vulnerable areas.

Later, during a public interaction at Battal Morh, Sharma urged residents to cooperate with the police in maintaining peace and order. He assured prompt redressal of grievances and reiterated the force’s commitment to strengthening police-public partnerships for a safer environment.
