United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced a temporary pause on “Project Freedom,” even as Washington continues to enforce a full maritime blockade against Iran amid ongoing diplomatic negotiations.

The decision, according to Trump, comes in response to requests from multiple countries, including Pakistan, and follows what he described as “significant progress” in talks aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement with Tehran.

In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said the pause in operations would serve as a test of diplomacy. However, he made it clear that the broader blockade on Iran remains fully operational, underscoring that pressure on the country will not be eased during negotiations.

“While the blockade will remain in full force, Project Freedom will be paused briefly to assess whether a final agreement can be reached,” Trump stated, highlighting recent military and strategic gains made by the US during the campaign.

What is ‘Project Freedom’?
“Project Freedom” is a US-led, military-backed maritime initiative launched to assist stranded commercial vessels navigating the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz. The operation was designed to escort ships—particularly those belonging to neutral nations—out of high-risk waters amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

The initiative aimed to ensure the safe passage of vessels caught in the conflict zone, many of which were reportedly running low on essential supplies. Trump described these ships and their crews as “neutral and innocent bystanders,” emphasizing the humanitarian dimension of the mission.

Despite the pause in ship movement operations, US officials have reiterated that the blockade will remain a key strategic tool as negotiations continue. The development reflects a cautious balancing act between military pressure and diplomatic engagement as Washington seeks a long-term resolution with Tehran.
