In a shocking incident from north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, a probationary sub-inspector (PSI) of Jammu and Kashmir Police allegedly shot his wife dead during a domestic dispute on Friday night and later attempted to end his own life, officials said on Saturday.
The officer, identified as Deep Singh and posted at a Special Operations Group (SOG) camp in the Kandi area of Kupwara, reportedly had an argument with his wife that escalated into violence.
According to officials, during the altercation, the PSI allegedly opened fire on his wife in a fit of rage, killing her on the spot.
Soon after the incident, he allegedly shot himself and sustained critical injuries.
He was immediately shifted to SKIMS Soura in Srinagar, where he is undergoing treatment, officials added.
Police have initiated an investigation into the incident to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the tragic episode.
