The Meteorological Department has forecast a fresh spell of light rain and thundershowers across parts of Jammu and Kashmir from Tuesday afternoon, with higher chances of weather activity in several areas of the Kashmir Valley.
Director of the MeT Department, Mukhtar Ahmad, said weather conditions are expected to remain generally dry during the morning hours, while rain, thundershowers and gusty winds are likely during the late afternoon and evening.
He said the intermittent weather activity is expected to continue till May 25, adding that there is no forecast of any prolonged or widespread rainfall spell across the Union Territory.
Mukhtar Ahmad said temperatures in parts of the Kashmir Valley touched nearly 30 degrees Celsius on Monday and are likely to remain above normal over the next few days. However, brief cloudy spells and light showers may bring temporary relief from the heat.
He further stated that the Jammu plains are expected to witness a rise of around 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures, with the possibility of isolated thundershowers around Thursday evening or night.
According to the MeT Department, weather conditions are likely to improve from May 25 onwards, after which dry weather is expected to prevail and temperatures may rise slightly.
The department has also predicted largely dry weather during Eid-ul-Adha from May 26 to May 28.
Advising farmers to undertake spraying and other agricultural activities during the early morning hours, Mukhtar Ahmad urged residents to remain cautious during spells of inclement weather and follow official advisories to avoid any untoward incidents.
