The Indian Army recovered two packets of suspected narcotics and a Chinese-origin pistol during a domination operation near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Thursday.

According to official sources, the recovery was made by troops of the Hamirpur Battalion in the forward area of Balakote in Mendhar subdivision during a search and surveillance operation.

Security personnel detected a concealed bag containing a Chinese-origin pistol along with two yellow polyethylene-wrapped packets suspected to contain narcotic substances, officials said.

The seized items have been taken into custody for further examination and forensic analysis. Security agencies have launched an investigation to ascertain the source of the consignment and its intended destination.

Officials said the operation forms part of intensified surveillance and anti-smuggling measures being carried out along the LoC to curb infiltration, narcotics trafficking and illegal movement of weapons in the border region.
