Two elderly persons lost their lives and four others sustained injuries after a vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge near Basti village in the Bhaderwah area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Saturday, officials said.
According to officials, the accident occurred when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a blind curve, causing it to veer off the road and fall into the gorge.
Rescue teams rushed to the spot and evacuated all six occupants. The injured were identified as Imam Din (65), Zaytoon Bibi (60), Bashir Mohammad (50), Masoom Bi (45), Badar Din (38), and 12-year-old Yaseen.
Officials said Zaytoon Bibi was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, while Imam Din succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The remaining four injured are undergoing medical treatment.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident, and further investigation is underway.
