A cloudburst struck Nala Overa in the Pahalgam area of south Kashmir on Saturday, triggering a flash flood and prompting an immediate response from the district administration.
Following the incident, emergency teams were rushed to the affected area to assess the situation and prevent any untoward incidents.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Pahalgam, said the administration acted swiftly after receiving information about the cloudburst. He said the Assistant Executive Engineer of the Flood Control Department, along with a technical team, was immediately deputed to the site to monitor the flash flood and assess its impact.
The SDM further informed that the Naib Tehsildar of Sallar is also on the ground conducting a detailed assessment of the affected area to evaluate any damage and coordinate relief and response measures.
As a precautionary step, authorities have shut down all 11 KV feeders from the Receiving Station Batkoot, resulting in a temporary power outage in the villages of Awoora, Dahwatoo, Laddi, and Batkoot. Officials said the decision was taken to ensure public safety and facilitate emergency operations.
The administration stated that all concerned departments, including Flood Control, Revenue, and the Power Development Department, have been placed on high alert and are working in close coordination to monitor the evolving situation.
Officials confirmed that, as of the filing of this report, there were no immediate reports of loss of life or major damage. However, a comprehensive assessment is currently underway.
Meanwhile, residents, particularly those living near streams and flood-prone areas, have been urged to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary movement near the affected Nala, and strictly adhere to official advisories.
