Two brothers sustained burn injuries after a fire broke out in a residential house, triggering an LPG cylinder explosion in the Cheeni Chowk area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Sunday, officials said.
According to officials, the blaze erupted inside the house, following which a cooking gas cylinder exploded, injuring both brothers.
The injured were identified as Zeeshan Firdous, son of Firdous Ahmad Hafiz, who suffered grievous burn injuries and was referred to SMHS Hospital, Srinagar, for specialised treatment. His brother, Aqib Firdous, sustained minor burn injuries and was admitted to a nearby hospital.
Personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the scene and launched an operation to contain the blaze. A fire tender from Fire Station Mattan was dispatched as reinforcement but was later recalled after the fire was brought under control.
Quoting officials, the news agency GNS reported that the fire has been completely contained and cooling operations are underway to prevent any fresh flare-up.
Officials said the exact cause of the fire and the subsequent LPG cylinder explosion is yet to be ascertained, and an investigation has been initiated.
