Examiner Bureau | Budgam:
Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board Chairperson Dr. Darakhshan Andrabi on Thursday said the National Conference’s (NC) proposed protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on July 20 would not lead to the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, describing the demonstration as an attempt to divert public attention from the party’s alleged failures.
“Statehood will not return through a protest at Jantar Mantar,” Andrabi told reporters. “The National Conference is staging this protest to divert the people’s attention from its failures.”
Speaking to the media at Makhama in the Magam area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district, Andrabi said the NC’s planned protest would have no impact on the Centre’s decision regarding the restoration of statehood.
Referring to statements made by the Union Government, she said both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have publicly assured that Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood would be restored.
“The Prime Minister and the Home Minister have already stated and assured that statehood will be restored. It will happen, but not because of a protest at Jantar Mantar,” she said.
The National Conference has announced a protest in New Delhi on July 20, demanding the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. The proposed demonstration has triggered mixed reactions from political parties across the Union Territory.
