Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday strongly condemned the terror attack in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district in which a Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel was killed while on duty. He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace for the slain policeman.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister paid tribute to Head Constable Ashiq Hussain of the 3rd Battalion of the India Reserve Police (IRP), describing his death as a supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
“Deeply saddened by the death in the line of duty of Head Constable Ashiq Hussain of IRP 3rd Battalion J&K Police. HC Hussain made the ultimate sacrifice in a cowardly terror attack in the Anantnag area of South Kashmir. I unequivocally condemn this attack and send my heartfelt condolences to the members of his family. May Allah grant him the highest place in Jannat,” Omar Abdullah wrote.
Head Constable Ashiq Hussain was killed after terrorists opened fire on a Special Operations Group (SOG) team in the Lal Chowk area of Anantnag town on Wednesday afternoon.
According to a senior police officer, the SOG team had launched an operation following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the area. As the team reached the location, the hiding terrorists opened fire, critically injuring Hussain.
The injured policeman was immediately shifted to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The slain officer was identified as Head Constable Ashiq Hussain, a resident of Beerwah in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Following the attack, security forces launched a massive cordon-and-search operation in the area to track down the assailants. The operation was continuing at the time of filing this report.
