Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said the welfare and future of the country’s youth remain the highest priority of the Narendra Modi government, welcoming the Centre’s decision to establish fast-track courts for the speedy trial of paper leak cases.
In a post on X, Shah said the move to expedite hearings and ensure stringent punishment for those involved in examination paper leaks reflects the government’s commitment to protecting students’ interests.
“This important step by Prime Minister Narendra Modi against those who toy with the future of the youth due to paper leaks will prove to be a milestone,” Shah said.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi reiterated that the welfare of the country’s youth is his government’s top priority and asserted that those attempting to jeopardise their future would face strict action.
“Nothing is more important than the welfare and future of our youth! This is our top priority. Those who try to harm the future of our youth will not be spared,” Modi said in a post on X.
Announcing the government’s decision to establish fast-track courts for paper leak cases, the Prime Minister said the measure would ensure swift investigation, speedy trials and stringent punishment for the guilty.
He also said he had directed the concerned authorities and officials to take all necessary steps to curb paper leaks, describing the initiative as part of a broader effort to safeguard students’ interests.
“This is an important step in the series of decisions being taken by the government to safeguard the interests of students,” Modi said.
The Prime Minister’s remarks came three days after thousands of students, led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), staged the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march in protest against alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Police used lathi-charge and tear gas to disperse the protesters, with scores of students reported injured. Authorities also said more than 100 police personnel were injured during efforts to stop the march.
Modi had first publicly addressed the issue of the NEET paper leak on Tuesday during a meeting of the NDA Parliamentary Party, signalling the government’s intent to strengthen measures against examination-related malpractice.
