Examiner Bureau | Anantnag:
Drinking water supply to Anantnag town and several adjoining areas was disrupted on Monday after multiple cloudbursts in the upper reaches of Pahalgam rendered the raw water from Lidder Nallah too turbid for treatment at the Bumzoo Water Filtration Plant, the Jal Shakti Department said.
According to the department, the sudden increase in silt and suspended particles in the water following the cloudbursts has made treatment at the filtration plant temporarily unfeasible, affecting the distribution of potable water.
The disruption has impacted Anantnag town, Uranhal, Batengoo, Khandipora, T.B. Shah, Donipawa, Mattan, and several adjoining areas. The department said the water supply would remain affected until further notice, pending improvement in raw water quality and restoration of normal operations at the filtration plant.
The Jal Shakti Department has appealed to residents in the affected areas to use available water judiciously and cooperate with the authorities until regular supply is restored.
