“The Chief Minister chaired a comprehensive review meeting today to assess preparations for the inaugural International Film Festival of Jammu & Kashmir (IFFJK) 2026, scheduled from September 7 to 10,” his official X handle said.
The festival will feature film screenings, masterclasses for emerging filmmakers and cultural performances, bringing together elements of cinema, art and the region’s distinctive cultural traditions.
Abdullah directed officials to ensure that Jammu and Kashmir’s heritage, cuisine, handicrafts, traditional art forms and iconic tourist destinations are prominently showcased during the festival. The move is aimed at using the international gathering not only to promote cinema but also to highlight the region as a cultural and tourism destination.
The Chief Minister also stressed the need for meticulous planning and close coordination among various government departments to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival. He called for efforts to establish IFFJK as a regular annual event with a place on the global film calendar.
The inaugural edition has already generated considerable interest within the filmmaking community, with organisers receiving more than 1,100 entries for the festival.
The strong response is expected to add an international dimension to Jammu and Kashmir’s growing cultural and creative landscape, while giving local filmmakers and artists an opportunity to connect with audiences and professionals from outside the region.
With preparations now under review, the administration is looking to make the first edition of IFFJK a significant cultural event that combines cinema with Jammu and Kashmir’s heritage, artistic traditions and tourism potential.
