Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday undertook an early-morning tour of Srinagar city, inspecting key development projects and reviewing infrastructure aimed at improving public services, healthcare and urban mobility in the historic Shehar-e-Khaas.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, several MLAs and senior officers.

During the tour, Omar Abdullah inspected the newly constructed building of the Urban Primary Health Centre at Maharaj Gunj and reviewed the upgraded facilities. He said the facility combines modern healthcare infrastructure with the area’s rich historical character and would strengthen patient care and healthcare delivery in the heart of the old city.

The Chief Minister also inspected the site of the proposed bridge at Barbar Shah, describing it as an important infrastructure project for improving connectivity in the area. He said the bridge, once completed, would help ease traffic congestion for commuters travelling towards Shehar-e-Khaas while ensuring smoother movement and improved urban mobility.

As part of the city tour, Omar Abdullah also laid the foundation stone for the long-pending upgradation and beautification of Mirza Kamil Sahib Chowk in Zadibal.

According to Zadibal MLA Tanvir Sadiq, the project, estimated to cost Rs 128.7 lakh, is aimed at addressing congestion, improving traffic regulation and enhancing the appearance of the important junction named after Mirza Kamil Sahib Astan.

Sadiq said the project would make the chowk cleaner, better organised and more aesthetically appealing, while addressing a long-standing demand of local residents.

The MLA expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo and Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani for taking up the issue and initiating work on the project.

Sadiq also thanked local residents who gathered as early as around 6 am to welcome the Chief Minister, describing their participation and support as encouraging.

The early-morning visit formed part of the Chief Minister’s ongoing review of developmental and infrastructure projects across Srinagar, with a focus on improving civic amenities, healthcare facilities, connectivity and the overall urban environment in the historic parts of the city.
