Examiner Bureau / Reasi:
The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) for allegedly demanding and accepting a Rs 5,000 bribe at Police Post Talwara in Reasi district, officials said.
The accused, ASI Talib Hussain, is posted at Police Post Talwara and was allegedly involved in the investigation of a case, an ACB spokesperson said.
According to the spokesperson, Hussain allegedly demanded Rs 5,000 from a complainant in exchange for presenting a charge sheet against the accused persons before the court.
The complainant, unwilling to pay the alleged bribe, approached the ACB and requested legal action against the police official.
Following the complaint, the ACB conducted a discreet verification, which, according to the bureau, corroborated the alleged demand for illegal gratification. A trap team headed by a Deputy Superintendent of Police-rank officer was subsequently constituted.
During the trap operation, the ACB team allegedly caught Hussain red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 5,000 from the complainant, the spokesperson said.
The bribe amount was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses. The ASI was arrested on the spot after completion of the requisite legal formalities.
The ACB has registered FIR No. 08/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, at ACB Police Station, Udhampur.
Further investigation is underway, the spokesperson said.
The ACB also said the operation marked the second successful trap conducted at Police Post Talwara in Reasi district during 2026, highlighting continued action against alleged corruption in public offices.
