Police have arrested an absconder in Anantnag who had been evading arrest since 2009 in connection with a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Rajasthan.
According to police, a team from Police Station Mattan, in coordination with Rajasthan Police, apprehended Shabir Ahmad Khan, son of Mohd Shahbaz Khan, a resident of Nai Basti, Khanabal, near Showkat Gas Agency, who is currently residing in Gopalpora, Mattan.
Khan was wanted in connection with FIR No. 09/2009, registered at GRP Abu Road in Sirohi district of Rajasthan under the NDPS Act.
Police said he was allegedly involved in a case concerning 4.5 kg of charas, which was reportedly intended to be delivered in Ahmedabad.
Following the issuance of an arrest warrant by the NDPS Court, Sirohi, Khan remained absconding for nearly 17 years.
Police said that after developing specific information and conducting sustained efforts, the accused was traced and apprehended from Gopalpora Mattan.
He has been taken into custody, while the concerned authorities in Rajasthan have been informed for further legal action.
Police said the arrest was part of their ongoing efforts to trace and apprehend individuals evading arrest in various cases.
