A police constable was arrested in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday for allegedly hitting and injuring a Station House Officer (SHO) with his vehicle near the Bijbehara police station, officials said.
The incident occurred late Sunday night when SHO Majid Ahmad Khan was on duty near the police station and was struck by a vehicle, officials said.
The accused has been identified as SG Constable Khurshid Ahmad Wani, son of Mohd Abdullah Wani, a resident of Bindoo in Kokernag. He was arrested in connection with the incident, officials said.
Police also seized the vehicle allegedly involved in the incident, an Alto bearing registration number JK16A-3739, they added.
The injured SHO was initially shifted to SDH Bijbehara for treatment and was later referred to the Bone and Joint Hospital in Srinagar for further medical care.
Further investigation into the incident is underway, officials said.
