The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has sanctioned the establishment of a Resident Office in New Delhi to coordinate judicial and administrative matters involving the court at the national level.
The sanction was accorded through Order No. 1468 of 2026/RG, issued by Registrar General M.K. Sharma on September 18, 2026.
The Resident Office will coordinate with the Standing Counsel and other counsels representing the High Court before the Supreme Court and monitor the progress of cases involving the court.
It will also facilitate the timely transmission of records, instructions, comments and responses required in matters pending before the Supreme Court.
According to the order, the office will assist in implementing directions issued by the Supreme Court and deal with administrative and institutional matters requiring coordination in New Delhi.
The Resident Office will maintain regular liaison with the Supreme Court Registry, the Department of Justice under the Government of India, constitutional authorities, judicial institutions, ministries, departments and other agencies based in the national capital.
The arrangement is intended to facilitate more efficient coordination between the High Court and institutions located in New Delhi, particularly in matters requiring prompt communication and follow-up.
The office will also establish and maintain a secure channel for the transmission and handling of confidential communications and sensitive matters requiring direct interaction between the High Court and the Supreme Court.
Besides the functions specified in the order, the Resident Office may undertake any other responsibilities assigned by the Chief Justice from time to time.
The Resident Office will function under the supervision and control of the officer designated as Registrar (Headquarters), New Delhi.
The designated officer will be responsible for the administration, coordination and effective functioning of the office, according to the order.
The establishment of the Resident Office provides the High Court with a dedicated institutional mechanism in the national capital for handling Supreme Court-related coordination as well as other judicial and administrative matters requiring engagement with central institutions.
