Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday handed over appointment orders to 29 newly selected Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police (Gazetted) Services at Lok Bhavan in Srinagar.
Addressing the newly inducted officers and their families, Sinha said policing in Jammu and Kashmir was confronting increasingly complex and non-traditional security challenges, requiring personnel to remain vigilant and adapt to evolving methods of terrorism.
“Jammu and Kashmir today is facing challenges that police officers a decade ago might not even have imagined. The nature of terrorism is changing, and the battle is no longer being fought with conventional weapons alone,” he said.
Congratulating the officers on their selection, the Lieutenant Governor said their appointment should be viewed not merely as a government posting but as a responsibility entrusted to them by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Today, appointment letters have been handed over to all 29 newly appointed officers. At first glance, it may appear to be an ordinary piece of paper, but it carries the immense trust and expectations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Sinha said.
He said the appointment offered the officers an opportunity to serve the people while shouldering responsibility for the safety and security of the Union Territory.
Sinha told the officers that policing would require commitment, discipline and personal sacrifice, adding that public safety depended on the contribution of capable and dedicated personnel.
“It is also a solemn promise made to the 14 million citizens of Jammu and Kashmir that their security, dignity, and future will remain in capable, honest, and dedicated hands. It will be a mission that will demand sacrifice and dedication from you,” he said.
Ahead of their training at the Police Academy in Udhampur, the Lieutenant Governor urged the officers to maintain the highest standards of integrity and prepare themselves for the physical and mental demands of police service.
He said the training programme would expose them to rigorous work and challenging situations designed to prepare them for the responsibilities ahead.
Sinha also underscored the significance of the police uniform, telling the officers that the badge they would wear should be regarded as a symbol of service and responsibility rather than authority.
“During your stay and training in Udhampur, you will get a glimpse of this mission, where hard work and rigorous training will be your companions, and you will learn to overcome mental and physical challenges,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor added that the badge worn by every police officer should represent “service, commitment, and responsibility” towards the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The newly selected DySPs will now undergo professional training before taking up their respective responsibilities in the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
