The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will raise the performance of the National Conference-led Jammu and Kashmir government during the upcoming Assembly session and seek a white paper on the work carried out during its two-year tenure, J&K BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma said on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Sharma said BJP legislators would question the government on various issues and seek a detailed account of the work undertaken since it assumed office.
“Our party will raise these issues on the streets, and our MLAs will question the government in the Assembly and ask them to issue a white paper detailing what work has actually been carried out by them,” he said.
Sharma alleged that the NC-led administration had not met people’s expectations, arguing that two years was sufficient time to assess its performance.
“Two years is not a short period. During these two years, they have not lived up to the expectations of the people. They have not even lived up to their own expectations,” he said.
He further claimed that people he had interacted with during the period were disappointed with the government.
“Everyone knows that the National Conference has not lived up to the expectations in any manner. During this two-year period, I also got an opportunity to interact with people and the general public. They feel that they have been let down and question why they voted for the National Conference,” Sharma said.
On the BJP’s month-long service campaign, Sharma said various programmes were being organised across the country to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday and his 25 years in public life.
He said party workers would engage with around 25 crore children through activities such as drawing and speech competitions.
Sharma said such initiatives were aimed at connecting with the younger generation, which, he added, would eventually shoulder responsibility for the country.
Commenting on the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, Sharma said the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) remained engaged with students and their concerns.
The 2026 DUSU results saw ABVP win three of the four central-panel posts—president, secretary and joint secretary—while independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the vice-president’s post. The Congress-backed National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) did not secure any of the four central-panel positions.
“The ABVP is a student wing that remains continuously engaged with students, listens to their problems and difficulties and makes efforts to resolve them,” Sharma said.
The BJP leader’s remarks come ahead of the J&K Assembly session, where the opposition party is expected to press the government on its record over the past two years and seek details of its expenditure, initiatives and implementation of various programmes.
