The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) on Sunday held a meeting of its legislators in Srinagar ahead of the upcoming session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
The meeting was chaired by NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah at the Banquet Hall and attended by Chief Minister and Leader of the House Omar Abdullah, party general secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar, Chief Whip Haji Mubarak Gul and NC legislators.
Congress legislators belonging to the coalition government, along with Independent MLAs supporting the government, also participated in the meeting.
The discussions focused on the Assembly session, scheduled to begin on Monday, and covered the strategy for raising public issues, constituency demands and other matters of importance during the proceedings.
Addressing the legislators, Farooq Abdullah called upon them to give priority to the concerns of the people and effectively highlight the issues and difficulties faced by residents of their respective constituencies.
He said the Legislative Assembly provides an important forum for legislators to raise public concerns, seek responses from the government and deliberate on matters affecting the people.
Abdullah stressed that the primary responsibility of elected representatives is to articulate people’s concerns on the floor of the House and seek solutions to their problems.
The meeting also emphasised that issues of public importance would be accorded priority during the session and that the concerns and demands of the people would be raised effectively in the Assembly.
