Examiner Bureau | Srinagar:

The Jammu and Kashmir Police will organise a series of sports and recreational activities in the coming days, including a cycle race, Jashn-e-Dal and a water sports event at Dal Lake, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Armed Police, Kashmir, Nitish Kumar, said on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters after flagging off the ‘Kashmir Marathon 2026—Run for Unity’, organised by the J&K Police in Srinagar, Kumar said the police would continue to promote sports and other constructive activities to engage young people.

“Very soon, there will be a cycle race here. The most anticipated event is Jashn-e-Dal. There is also a water sports event on Dal Lake, which will be held within a few days,” he said.

Kumar said the response to the Kashmir Marathon had exceeded expectations, with participants from different sections of society as well as runners from outside Jammu and Kashmir taking part.

Congratulating the participants, he said the sportsmanship displayed during the event was encouraging.

“The biggest thing is the sportsman spirit. You can see that people from all categories are participating. This is a good thing,” he said.

The ADGP said such sporting events provide young people with opportunities to participate in healthy and constructive activities.

Kumar also spoke about the issue of substance abuse, identifying drugs and alcohol among the major sources of addiction in society.

He said the J&K Police had demonstrated how children and young people could overcome drug abuse and highlighted the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan as part of the police’s sustained efforts to combat the menace.

The upcoming cycle race, Jashn-e-Dal and water sports event are part of the police’s continuing efforts to promote sports and recreational activities and encourage greater participation of youth in constructive pursuits.
