The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday arrested a Fireman posted under the Assistant Director, Fire and Emergency Services, Udhampur, for allegedly demanding and accepting a Rs 15,000 bribe for processing and issuing a Fire and Emergency Services No Objection Certificate (NOC) for a hotel in Katra.
According to the CBI, it registered a case against the accused on October 6 following a complaint alleging that he had demanded Rs 40,000 from the complainant for processing and issuance of the required NOC.
The agency said the demand was subsequently negotiated, following which the accused allegedly agreed to accept Rs 15,000.
The CBI laid a trap on October 6 and caught the accused red-handed while allegedly demanding and accepting the bribe from the complainant, the agency said.
The accused was arrested following the trap operation, while further investigation into the case is underway, the CBI said.
The agency is examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged demand and acceptance of the bribe and other aspects related to the issuance of the Fire and Emergency Services NOC.
