Examiner Bureau | Srinagar:
The two-day Special Intensive Voter Enrolment Drive concluded across Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, with election officials assisting eligible citizens with voter registration, corrections to electoral records and other enrolment-related services.
Conducted on October 10 and 11, the drive was held at polling stations across the Union Territory from 9 am to 5 pm on both days, according to the Election Department, Jammu and Kashmir.
The exercise was carried out under the overall supervision of Chief Electoral Officer Sanjeev Verma, with district election authorities coordinating arrangements to facilitate voter services.
District Election Officers, Electoral Registration Officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers and other election functionaries supervised the drive in their respective areas. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) assisted visitors at polling stations and guided them through the prescribed registration procedures.
Citizens received assistance with Forms 6, 7 and 8, used for voter enrolment and changes to electoral records. Officials also guided applicants on accessing electoral services through the Voter Helpline App.
Election functionaries addressed public queries and grievances and referred cases to the concerned officials for necessary action. Contact numbers of relevant officials were also shared to help citizens seek assistance directly.
The department said eligible citizens, including young and first-time voters, could apply to their respective Electoral Registration Officers for inclusion in the electoral rolls under the continuous updation process.
Door-to-door outreach and field inspections by election officials were also undertaken to identify eligible voters and encourage them to register.
During the drive, Salam Din, Deputy Director Information and Nodal Officer for the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme in the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, interacted with the media. He highlighted the importance of voter awareness, accessible registration facilities and public participation, while acknowledging the media’s role in disseminating information about the initiative.
The Election Department said voter facilitation camps and similar enrolment activities would continue to be organised to improve access to electoral services and ensure that all eligible citizens have an opportunity to register.
