Agencies | Riyad:
Egypt’s presidency has said the country is ready to provide Saudi Arabia with the support it needs to safeguard its security and stability, amid heightened tensions in the region.
Meanwhile, Iranian state-run media reported that Mehrdad Akhlaghi Ketabchi has been approved by Iran’s parliament as the country’s new defence minister.
In a separate development, the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen claimed to have downed additional drones near Riyadh. The coalition also reported that two military personnel were killed in a helicopter crash in Saudi Arabia’s Najran region.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, meanwhile, said Tehran had conveyed a seven-day plan to the United States through Qatar aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
“The choice now rests with” Washington, Araghchi said, indicating that the next step depended on the US response.
The developments come amid continuing diplomatic and security efforts over regional stability and the strategic waterway, which is a key route for global energy shipments.
