Examiner Bureau | Anantnag: The District Social Welfare Department on Monday celebrated International Women’s Day with enthusiasm at the Town Hall Anantnag, with participation from women across different parts of the district.
The programme was organised by the Office of the District Social Welfare Officer under the Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women (SHEW) to highlight the importance of women’s empowerment and entrepreneurship.
Deputy Commissioner Bilal Mohi-ud-Din Bhat attended the event as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner appreciated the growing role of women in social and economic development and emphasised the need to create more opportunities and support systems for women to become self-reliant. He encouraged women to avail themselves of various government welfare schemes aimed at strengthening their financial independence.
Dr. Bhat also lauded the District Social Welfare Department for organising the programme on the occasion of International Women’s Day and for promoting initiatives that support women’s empowerment.
During the event, sewing machines were distributed among several beneficiaries to support their livelihoods and promote self-employment. A number of young women entrepreneurs were also felicitated for their innovative initiatives and successful ventures in the business sector.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from women, officials from different departments and members of civil society, making it a meaningful platform to recognise and celebrate the achievements and contributions of women in Anantnag district.
