Agency | News Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday chaired a high-level meeting with chief ministers via video conferencing to review preparedness in light of the evolving situation arising from the West Asia crisis.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister underscored that the government’s top priorities are maintaining economic and trade stability, ensuring energy security, safeguarding citizens’ interests, and strengthening industrial and supply chain resilience. Expressing confidence in a coordinated national response, he said that by working together as “Team India,” the country would effectively overcome emerging challenges.

Modi directed states to ensure the smooth functioning of supply chains and take strict action against hoarding and profiteering. He also stressed the importance of advance planning in the agriculture sector, particularly in monitoring fertiliser availability and distribution to avoid disruptions.

Highlighting the need for strong coordination, the Prime Minister called for robust mechanisms at all levels to enable swift and effective responses to any crisis. He specifically advised border and coastal states to remain vigilant regarding shipping, maritime operations, and essential supplies.

Cautioning against misinformation, Modi urged authorities to disseminate accurate and credible information to prevent panic among the public.

Chief ministers, in turn, briefed the Prime Minister on the situation in their respective states, noting that conditions remain stable with adequate availability of petrol, diesel, and LPG. They welcomed the Centre’s recent measures, including reductions in excise duty on fuel and increased allocation of commercial LPG.

Among those who attended the meeting were N. Chandrababu Naidu, Yogi Adityanath, Revanth Reddy, Bhagwant Mann, Bhupendra Patel, Omar Abdullah, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, and Pema Khandu, among others.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah were also present.

This marks the first such meeting chaired by the Prime Minister with chief ministers since the West Asia conflict began on February 28 following US–Israel strikes on Iran and Tehran’s subsequent retaliation across the region.

Notably, chief ministers from election-bound states did not participate in the meeting due to the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct.
