In a significant setback to the Aam Aadmi Party, several of its Rajya Sabha Members of Parliament, including Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak, and Ashok Mittal, announced their resignation from the party on Friday.
Addressing a joint press conference, Pathak confirmed his decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party. Chadha, meanwhile, stated that nearly two-thirds of AAP’s Rajya Sabha MPs have stepped down and are planning to join the BJP as a unified group.
According to Chadha, the number of resignations has reached seven out of the party’s 10 members in the Upper House, a figure that could have significant implications under the Anti-Defection Law.
He further claimed that other leaders, including Swati Maliwal and Harbhajan Singh, have also parted ways with the party.
The development marks a major political shift and is expected to impact the party’s strength in the Rajya Sabha, while potentially strengthening the BJP’s position in the Upper House.
