Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is in Rome as part of the fifth and final leg of his five-nation tour, on Wednesday shared images of his meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni following their interaction in the Italian capital.

Taking to X, PM Modi said he had an opportunity to meet Prime Minister Meloni over dinner shortly after arriving in Rome, followed by a visit to the iconic Colosseum.

“Upon landing in Rome, had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Meloni over dinner followed by a visit to the iconic Colosseum. We exchanged perspectives on a wide range of subjects. Looking forward to our talks today, where we will continue the conversation on how to boost the India-Italy friendship,” Modi posted.

Prime Minister Meloni also shared a candid selfie with PM Modi on X, writing, “Welcome to Rome, my friend!” along with the national flag emojis of India and Italy.

The Italian Prime Minister also posted a photograph of the two leaders standing before the illuminated Colosseum, the historic Roman amphitheatre and one of Italy’s most recognised landmarks.

During his visit, PM Modi is scheduled to hold formal talks with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, besides participating in several diplomatic engagements before departing for India.

In another post on X, PM Modi said the visit would focus on expanding cooperation between India and Italy, particularly in areas linked to connectivity, trade and strategic collaboration.

“I have landed in Rome, Italy. I will meet President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and hold discussions with them. This visit will focus on how to strengthen cooperation between India and Italy, with particular attention to the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC),” he said.

The Prime Minister also announced plans to visit the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), underlining India’s continued emphasis on multilateral cooperation and global food security initiatives.

The visit comes amid growing momentum in India-Italy relations, with both countries advancing the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029 aimed at deepening cooperation across key sectors, including trade, defence, technology, clean energy and infrastructure.
